Slow spreading rhizomatous fern with summer dormant leaves, often epiphytic on trees and rocks or as a groundcover in well drained spots. Needs good winter moisture. Rhizomes have a distinct smell and taste of licorice when crushed or bruised. Likes sun to partial shade. Soil: Moist to Dry
